Sprawl: Southwestern Style

These images by Christoph Gielen in the New York Times caught my eye recently.  I think I will simply post them without any commentary on the subject matter they so beautifully represent (its too easy to go from snarky to mean).  But I hope you’ll find them as interesting and even mesmerizing as I do.  Read more about the photos in Geoff Manaugh’s post about them here.

“A 1960s-era retirement community in Maricopa County, on the west and southwest sides of Phoenix. It has roughly 40,000 residents, with a median age of 75 years.”

“A different Phoenix-area retirement community, much smaller and more exclusive than the previous one.”

“The still-expanding development seen in this set of photographs is located in Clark County, Nevada, near the state’s southern tip.”
