Schipol Luchthaven, the Netherlands

Can I just say how much I love arriving in Schipol airport?  There are so many reasons.  The poetry of its title – the dutch word for airport is Luchthaven, which transliterates to sky haven.  Beautiful.  Its also miraculously close to … everything.  The train station in the forecourt of the arrivals terminal has departures every quarter hour which will whisk you away to central Amsterdam, speeding along faster than the adjacent cars.  The airport itself contains an annex to the Rijksmuseum, a library and wonderfully clear and clean graphic way finding signage provided by Dutch informational designer Paul Mijksenaar.  The only thing that disappoints me personally when I arrive there is how little (none really) Dutch I need to get around – all the primary signage is in English.  Here are images of my arrival from Turkey.
