Granada, Andalusia, Spain

June 1, 2013by dihansmann Leave a comment

My travel around Andalusia wasn’t the most geographically logical but roughly followed the historical retreat of the Moorish powers in Al-Andalus during the Reconquista by the christian Spanish forces.  Although […]

Cordoba, Andalusia, Spain

I visited Cordoba on a quiet Sunday afternoon, when it gave little evidence of having been the most populace city in the world during the 10th century when it served […]

Seville, Andalusia, Spain

May 25, 2013by dihansmann Leave a comment

I wandered around Seville humming snatches of Carmen to myself and marvelling at the profusion of the color yellow.  Yellow traffic barricades, yellow domed rooftops, yellow horse carridge wheels, yellow […]

Cadiz, Andalusia, Spain

I spent only a few hours in Tarifa before moving on to Cadiz.  I schlepped my belongings a few miles to the edge-of-town bus station and sat with a Magnum […]

Come find me at Mid Mod Midwest

Does anyone else need to make up little mantras and cheerleading slogans for their home remodel projects? I DO! ⠀ ⠀ Here are a few of the things I've been circling back to again and again as I make choices in how to update my 1950's ranch. ⠀ ⠀ A home remodeling project can be confusing and overwhelming. Having a few mantras or mottos can really help keep you on track when you're faced with your 1001 decision of the renovation! You’ll thank yourself when you find yourself at sea between 100 similar but distinct faucets in the Home Depot plumbing aisle the night before the plumber is due to come install new sinks.⠀ ⠀ What's the rallying cry of your latest project?⠀ ⠀
A little valentine to all the wonderful warm toned wood grain in my mid century ranch. ⠀I love my cabinets even though they have taken a bit of a beating over the years. ❤️❤️❤️ ⠀ Blog post on why wood was such a favorite mid mod material: link in my profile! ⠀ ⠀ How is golden toned wood featured in your house?⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Part of the fun of remodeling a mid mod house is ADDING in some period style details. This is the built in storage wall I plan to add to my living room. ⠀ ⠀ I’ll have a post on the love mid-century designers had for natural wood built-ins in tomorrow’s blog post! Spoiler alert: I share it and want more in my home. ⠀ ⠀
